I’m thrilled to share that I’ve been featured in the UK’s iconic Amateur Photographer magazine in an article titled Another Fine Mess. Written by the talented Peter Dench, the piece explores my work photographing abandoned buildings across Europe, and the balance I strive for between artistic expression and ethical exploration.
Peter and I first met at La Gacilly, and it was such a pleasure to reconnect for this interview. In the feature, we discuss my journey from portraiture to photographing derelict stately homes, asylums, and decaying palaces, as well as the guiding principles behind my work: navigating decay with dignity, and finding beauty in spaces often overlooked.
Being featured in Amateur Photographer is particularly special. Fondly known as AP, it’s the UK’s biggest-selling photography magazine and the oldest consumer photography publication in the world, first published in 1884. To be included in its long history of celebrating photography is a real milestone for me.
The article beautifully captures the ethos of my work – the quiet grandeur, meticulous framing, and the reverence I try to bring to each abandoned space I photograph. I hope it gives readers a glimpse of the stories these buildings hold, and the care with which I approach each location.
You can read the full feature in the latest issue of Amateur Photographer, or pick it up at newsagents across the UK.
